It only takes a minute to sign up. I have a centos 7 server, with 4 interfaces. I want each interface to respond requests itself. I have one interface for Management guess enp2s0 and it should be only available in internal network and stuff like that. I have configured static and persistent rule using nmtui utility. You can play around with route metric to give proper gateway precedence.

It only takes a minute to sign up. I have several IPv6 addresses on a CentOS 7 server and need to make a specific v6 address the default address used in routing. I have been able to do this by modifying the route table. Problem is each time the network interface is restarted or the server itself is rebooted, the change to the default IPv6 route is lost.
How can I make this change persistent so its permanently kept? Reversing the order in which IPv6 addresses are listed is generally sufficient to fix the problem. The format of this file is the same as the ip route add command with that bit omitted, e. It doesn't exist by default so you will need to create it and set permissions to make it executable. Just make sure that the desired address is the first one assigned to the interface. Yes, they get assigned in reverse order, which is annoying and I suspect it's a bug. That's crazy. Static routes are for traffic that must not, or should not, go through the default gateway. Routing is often handled by devices on the network dedicated to routing although any device can be configured to perform routing. Exceptions include traffic that must pass through an encrypted VPN tunnel or traffic that should take a specific route for reasons of cost or security.
The default gateway is for any and all traffic which is not destined for the local network and for which no preferred route is specified in the routing table. The default gateway is traditionally a dedicated network router. If static routes are required, they can be added to the routing table by means of the ip route add command and removed using the ip route del command. The more frequently used ip route commands take the following form: ip route [ add del change append replace ] destination-address See the ip-route 8 man page for more details on the options and formats.
Use the ip route command without options to display the IP routing table. The network prefix is the number of enabled bits in the subnet mask. This format of network address slash network prefix length is sometimes referred to as classless inter-domain routing CIDR notation.
These are described below. See the ip-route 8 man page for more information on the ip route command.Use CentOS Linux for Routing, Proxy, NAT, DHCP - Part 7
The ifcfg files are parsed in numerically ascending order, and the last GATEWAY directive to be read is used to compose a default route in the routing table. The default route can thus be indicated by means of the GATEWAY directive and can be specified either globally or in interface-specific configuration files. Specifying the gateway globally has certain advantages in static networking environments, especially if more than one network interface is present.
It can make fault finding simpler if applied consistently. This option is not recommend as it can have unexpected consequences if an interface goes down and it can complicate fault finding. In dynamic network environments, where mobile hosts are managed by NetworkManagergateway information is likely to be interface specific and is best left to be assigned by DHCP.
This file specifies gateway and host information for all network interfaces. Interface Control Scripts Configuring Static Routes in ifcfg files.

Static routing is a form of routing that occurs when a router uses a manually-configured routing entry, rather than information from a dynamic routing traffic.
Network administrator can manually configured static routes by adding in entries into a routing table. Static routes are fixed and do not change if the network is changed or reconfigured. Static routing and dynamic routing are not mutually exclusive. Dynamic routing and static routing are usually used on a router to maximize routing efficiency and to provide backups in the event that dynamic routing information fails to be exchanged. For more details about static route you can Click Here.
In the above screen shot you can see that any packets to reach a destination network ID Now I am going to add one static route where we can define Network as well as specify via which IP address and interface the packet should travel through in order to reach its destination. You can also see Network configuration after CentOS 7 minimal installation. You made some clear points there.

Static routing can be used to define an exit point from a router when there is no any other routes are available or necessary.
This is called a default route. Static routing can be used for small networks which require only one or two routes. Static routing is often used as a complement to dynamic routing to provide a failsafe backup in the event that a dynamic route is unavailable. We can define an above mentioned persistent static route add a following line into our route-enp0s3 file.

The file name should be of the format route- ifname. The interface is the interface that is connected to, or can reach, the default gateway.
The dev option can be omitted, it is optional. If a route to a remote network is required, a static route can be specified as follows. Each line is parsed as an individual route:. The address It is preferably the next hop address but the address of the exit interface will work. The dev option can be used to specify the exit interface interface but it is not required.
Add as many static routes as required. The following is an example of a route- interface file using the ip command arguments format. The default gateway is The two static routes are for reaching the In the above example, packets going to the local Packets going to the Packets to unknown, remote, networks will use the default gateway therefore static routes should only be configured for remote networks or hosts if the default route is not suitable.
Remote in this context means any networks or hosts that are not directly attached to the system. Specifying an exit interface is optional. It can be useful if you want to force traffic out of a specific interface.
For example, in the case of a VPN, you can force traffic to a remote network to pass through a tun0 interface even when the interface is in a different subnet to the destination network. X " is a garbage. X is the gateway, or a different IP address.
These errors can also occur if you have another route to another network using the default gateway. Both of these errors are safe to ignore. Acid, do static routes go there? All you should need to do is create that file and put in the following line: eth0 net Yeah, that is how you setup your default gw, but in order to setup a static route you need more information than that. I honestly don't think you can put a static route definition in there.
I suspect the script that sources that file is only looking for the information you listed.
